Building a Digital Bridge: Developing the MemoryConnect Website

I was thrilled to be part of the team that brought MemoryConnect to life. This groundbreaking project, a collaboration between Cardiff Metropolitan University, Age Connects Torfaen, and AIMAITES, aimed to create a digital platform to support people with dementia (PwD) and their carers. At its core was the development of a mobile app that passively captured vital data to inform a peer-to-peer support network. My role was to translate this innovative concept into a user-friendly and visually appealing website.

From the outset, I understood the critical importance of creating a website that was both informative and compassionate. It needed to be a digital sanctuary for those seeking support and information about dementia. My goal was to design a website that reflected the empathy and care at the heart of the MemoryConnect project.

The website’s design was a collaborative process, involving input from dementia experts, carers, and people living with dementia. I worked closely with the project team to ensure that the website was accessible, inclusive, and easy to navigate. By carefully selecting a calming colour palette and incorporating clear, concise language, I aimed to create a soothing online environment.

Developing the MemoryConnect logo was a challenging yet rewarding task. I wanted to create a symbol that represented hope, connection, and understanding. The final design is a simple yet powerful representation of the project's core values.

Interactivity was a key focus for the website. I wanted to create a space where users could easily find information, engage with the project, and connect with others. Features such as youtube integration, informative infographics, and clear calls to action were incorporated to enhance the user experience.

Behind the scenes, I employed the latest web development technologies to ensure the website was fast, secure, and accessible to all users. By optimising the website for search engines, I aimed to make it easy for people to find information about MemoryConnect when they needed it most.

The launch of the MemoryConnect website was a significant milestone in the project. It marked the beginning of a journey to improve the lives of people with dementia and their carers. I am proud to have contributed to this important work and look forward to seeing the positive impact of MemoryConnect in the community.
